Apex

apex_0_1439809479-2.jpgApex was created around a railway system that supplied lumber, tar, and turpentine as early as 1869. Located in the southwestern part of Wake County, it combines all the conveniences of a bigger city with the quaint small town air of what it started as. Town planners hope to keep that feeling while also allowing newcomers into the area. Apex has a rich history of tobacco farming, and all the modern brick buildings in the area stem from wanting a stronger structural system for their business district.

A major streetscape renovation project has restored Apex's downtown and recaptured its historic flavor. The revitalized downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the best examples of an intact turn-of-the-century railroad town. If you have not yet experienced Downtown Apex, we invite you to come see what hundreds of newcomers have fallen in love with and now call home.

Apex's Accolades:

  • #5 America's Top States for Business, CBNC (July 2016)
  • #6 Safest City in North Carolina, Credit Donkey (February 2016)
  • Best Places to Live - #1 in America, Time/Money Magazine (August 2015)
